Job Title: Optician and Community Liaison
Position Summary:
The Optician and Community Liaison plays a dual role, providing expert guidance in optical dispensing and serving as a personal link between our clinic and the community. This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, and mathematical skills to assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear and to build and maintain strong relationships with employers, organizations, and the broader community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Optician Responsibilities:
- Interpret eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions from optometrists.
- Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses based on facial measurements, prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
- Perform eyewear adjustments and repairs, including nose pad replacement and frame realignment.
- Submit accurate eyewear orders to ophthalmic labs.
- Ensure proper eyewear fit and patient satisfaction upon delivery.
- Educate patients on eyewear use, care, and general eye health.
- Maintain accurate sales records and manage inventory.
- Support the retail optical department through product knowledge and customer care.
Community Liaison Responsibilities:
- Serve as a point of contact for employers, patients, and community members regarding services and vision care opportunities.
- Promote services, including employee vision plans and eyewear options.
- Reinitiate and maintain relationships with local businesses, employers, and referral partners.
- Conduct follow-ups with clients and employers to identify needs and promote services.
- Attend community events or employer health fairs as needed to represent the clinic.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure patients and community partners are informed about new products, benefits, and promotions.
Required Skills and Attributes:
Technical Skills:
- Ability to interpret and analyze optical prescriptions.
- Skilled in taking accurate PD, seg height, and other measurements.
- Familiarity with lens types and coatings for different patient needs.
Customer Service:
- Excellent communication skills to explain product choices and educate patients.
- Empathy and patience when working with individuals with visual impairments.
- Ability to handle objections and questions professionally and respectfully.
Organizational Skills:
- Attention to detail when placing orders or documenting patient preferences.
- Ability to multitask and maintain accurate records.
- Dexterity for precise adjustments and repairs.
Marketing and Outreach:
- Comfortable initiating contact with employers and partners to offer vision care services.
- Represent the clinic positively in public-facing events and communications.
- Ability to discuss and promote employee vision plan options with business clients.
